I was in the process of looking for something else and became sidetracked. What else is new?
I read an article that the U.S. Postal service is in the red — big time. Then, somehow, I ran across a stamp from another country and my search took a hard left turn.
This caused me to print a list of ALL the countries in the world. There are 196, if you count Taiwan (and many people do not), sovereign countries. I began a search by country. I was surprised, I was also forced to limit my goal.
My goal, you ask? To find postal stamps, issued by country, which had dogs on them.
I know this is not an earth-shattering goal as pertains to dogs, however, it was fun, enlightening, and I discovered some incredible stamps. Many are truly beautiful. Overall I found Poland to have a series that is/was wonderful, though there are a few individually issued stamps from other countries that I would love to enlarge and use as art-of-the-dog.
I found very few countries that did not have stamps with dogs on them, though I will admit I stopped perusing by country and chose these to be posted. I found a few I would not have expected to issue stamps, but did. I quickly came to the realization that I could not spend the time finding, nor had the space to publish, one stamp per country, thus limiting came into play.
I’ve decided to throw them onto this blog so that you may enjoy them, too. Here they are in alphabetical order by country name.
These are really great. I can see how you would be captivated for hours & hours. I would also like to have some as art work on my walls.
Thanks for sharing.
What a fantastic research project! Thank you making the images available, Susan.
I have lots more I filed away. Tiny islands, such as Tuvalu and Christmas Island, have some really nice ones. Who would have thought?
Oh my gosh. Its interesting to see which dogs some countries picked. You’re right, who would have thought!
You miss identified the Bosnian dog, its actually the Bosnian Mountain Dog also known as Tornjak.
Thanks for the correction on the Bosnian stamp. I’ve changed it.
Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know
a few of the images aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a
linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
Great information. Lucky me I ran across your blog by accident (stumbleupon).
I have saved as a favorite for later!
There is certainly a great deal to know about this subject.
